Social & Events

BDYC is more than just sailing — it’s a social club. Every Saturday brings a new event, and our members make it a point to be here. It’s what makes us a community, not just a marina.

Weekly Saturday Events

Our signature events are the themed Saturday nights. Members sign up to host, and the club provides the waterfront and the grill. Past favourites include:

  • 🇩🇪 German Night — Bratwurst, sauerkraut & cold beer
  • 🇲🇽 Mexican Night — Tacos, guac & margaritas
  • 🇮🇹 Italian Night — Pasta, wine & good company
  • 🍔 Classic BBQ — Burgers, dogs & all the fixings
  • 🦞 Lobster Night — The summer highlight
  • 🔧 Bosun’s Event — For the hands-on crew
  • 🏆 Awards Night — End-of-season celebration
  • 🎄 Holiday Party — Annual winter gathering

Want to Host a BBQ?

Hosting a Saturday BBQ is a great way to get involved and earn volunteer credits. Pick a date, choose a theme (or keep it simple), and the club provides the waterfront and the grill. Dietary accommodations: event hosts are encouraged to offer gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options when possible.

How It Works

  • Cost: $5.00 per person, $2.50 for children
  • Dinner starts at 6:00 PM — no reservation needed, just show up
  • Hosts: Plan and prepare food for approximately 40 people
  • Arrival: Hosts should arrive by 4:30 PM to set up
  • Reimbursement: Keep all your receipts and submit them after the event
  • Volunteer credits: Hosting a BBQ counts toward your volunteer hours

Special Events

Some events — like lobster nights and oyster parties — require advance reservation due to ingredient costs and limited quantities. Watch for announcements from the Social Director.

Contact the Social Director at social@bdyc.com to sign up to host.

Club Kitchen

The club kitchen is accessible to members at any time, except Saturday evenings when it is reserved for the weekly social event.

Supplies on Hand

The club keeps the following basics stocked for members and event hosts:

  • Ketchup, mustard, relish, BBQ sauce
  • Olive oil, assorted spices
  • Milk, sugar
  • Tea and coffee

Running low on something? Let us know at social@bdyc.com.

Fridges

  • 2 fridges in the garage — one for members, one for sailing school students
  • 1 fridge in the kitchen — reserved for club and social event use only
  • Junior Squadron summer: the student fridge must be emptied by Monday morning each week

Kitchen Rules

  • Label all food with your name and date
  • No glass containers, coolers, empty bottles, or beer cases in the garage
  • Remove your coolers promptly after use
  • Saturday afternoons and evenings are not available for private events
  • Clean up after yourself — leave the kitchen as you found it
  • Children must be supervised in the kitchen at all times
  • For large club events, personal items in the kitchen fridge may need to be temporarily relocated — advance notice will be given
